"Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init."
 
I have been trying to install Mandrake Linux on my PC which has Windows 2000 already installed, but on entering the installation phase i get a screen full of text and the final message: kernel panic; attempted to kill init.
What have I done wrong and what can I do to complete installation?

Although i haven't seen such problem so would like to make some educated guess.
Q > what are your partitons ? and where are you trying to install linux ?
Q > is your installation media fine ??? did you checked the md5sum before writing the iso files to the cd ?
