KDE4, no kicker?
Hi, I installed all of the latest KDE4 components on Ubuntu. (Yeah I know I could have used Kubuntu, but I wasn't sure which I wanted).

Anyway whatever the new kicker is called, it's not showing up on my desktop. How do I get it to start?

Also there are loads of desktop configuration options that are missing when I right click and select 'configure desktop.'

Either it has been much (indeed over) simplified. or this hasn't been finished yet? Is this likely to be permanent?

I also found you cant drag desktop icons and drop them into a folder any more.

Surely it's a pretty dumb idea to not be able to do this?

There have been numerous articles that have stated that KDE 4.0 is not a finished product and is for early adopters only. Of course there are missing components so far.. KDE 4 will gradually gain feature parity with the KDE 3.x series.

As for your kicker which is called a panel in KDE4, it depends on what version of KDE4.0 you have. You may be able to right click the desktop and click the add panel item in the context menu. If that is not there you can try this:

kquitapp plasma; rm /home/$USER/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc; plasma
Just paste that in a konsole.
