KDE4.6 with cifs home directories, lnusertemp error
I need a little help in getting KDE to run using a home directory mounted from a windows server.
Here is some background: I'm in a mixed environment of Windows and Linux machines. We're using autofs for mounting home directories from the Windows servers. The customers want to use KDE because that is what they're used to and there will be a ton of push-back if we try to use anything else as the desktop environment.
Now the dilemma, KDE4 creates the following directories
/tmp/ksocket-$USER
/tmp/kde-$USER.
KDE4 then calls /usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/lnusertemp to create the following symbolic links:
/home/user/.kde4/socket-$HOSTNAME -> /tmp/ksocket-$USER
/home/user/.kde4/tmp-$HOSTNAME -> /tmp/kde-$USER
lnusertemp then fails with the error "Call to lnusertemp failed (temporary directories full). Check your installation.
The problem is that the home directory is cifs which does not support symbolic links. Therefore lnusertemp fails and it's not because the temp dir is full.
Is anyone else using KDE4 with cifs home directories, and if so how did you get around this problem.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Kyle
