KDE without Kwin?

I was wandering if there is some way to use KDE without Kwin. Nothing wrong with Kwin, I just feel like trying ion3 for a while, maby enlightenment afterwards, but I would like all the background stuff for KDE to be loaded.

What is the official way to do this?

It is a matter of changing the window manager environment variable when you launch KDE. Typically done from a script. The alternative WMs will have specific instructons for them.

i.e. see the Enlightenment DR16 faq ... if you compile E16, you will get a start script and esktop config files that takes care of this for you. You just change your session to E-KDE.
