Question KDE Upgrade


If I upgrade KDE, will I lose my settings... login screen, wallpaper, etc.?

Maybe, maybe not. What distribution are you using? How do you plan to upgrade? Are you using a package manager? If so, what one?

Kubuntu with 12.04LTS. Was going to use apt-get to add repository. Then upgrade from there.

You will have a hidden folder in your home directory called either, ".kde", or ".kde4". copy that folder to somewhere else so you've got a back up, then proceed to try the upgrade. Once the upgrade has finished, reboot (just to make sure everything restarts and runs smoothly), and if your settings have been reset, you can hust delete the .kde folder and replace it with the one you copied before.
