kde scroll without focus
 

I recently switched (again ) to KDE from gnome and I noticed that a feature that gnome has, that it doesn't automatically focus a window when i use the scroll wheel on it, is absent in KDE. Can this be changed in KDE because this is very useful for example, when taking notes in kate I can scroll in firefox without loosing focus of kate?

Yup, it definitely exists in KDE. I use it myself. Let me see here..

In Control Center --> Window Behaviour --> Focus Policy ------- Select FOCUS STRICTLY UNDER MOUSE

Uncheck AUTO RAISE

Check CLICK RAISE ACTIVE FOCUS

Try that. If it doesn't work right, I'll oook for a setting I've missed, but that should do it. :)

No, that isn't what I wanted, I'll try to explain again, sorry.

I don't want the focus switched when I scroll on the window. , I want it to stay unfocused because I want to be able to type in another window(OOo, kate) while keeping the cursor and scrolling on the window from which I read(ie. Firefox). This is normal behavior in gnome/metacity, kde changes the focus whenever I try to scroll (but not click!) over a window.

It's a bit difficult to explain and I'm not a native speaker. :)

Your English seems good to me, don't worry about that. :) And now I do understand what you want.

) I believe the solution you want, if it is possible, will be attained by playing around with those settings in Control Center. I do not know for 100% certain if that exact setup is possible with KDE, but I would like to think it IS, because there are many combinations of settings in the Control Panel.
Until someone comes in here and maybe tells you EXACTLY how to do it, you may just find it by toying with the settings. I have noticed that some settings do not act exactly as I would have guessed they would, and took a lot of toying around to get it how I liked it. You may just need to do the same thing.

Sounds like you kind of need focus on TWO windows.. Hmm..

Well thanks anyway, I think the problem is that KDE considers a scroll as a click. I'll keep trying, there must be a solution, i mean, isn't KDE supposed to be more configurable than gnome?

My settings are Click to Focus and Click raise active window and I can do what you want. Right now I'm scrolling up and down in kcontrol using the mouse and typing in firefox.

So KDE can clearly distinguish between click and wheel ;)
