K/Ubuntu 8.10+nvidia driver and chip+some app's screen redraw very slow
Ok, so normally I have no problems, but recently some of my app's have shown very slow redrawing on the screen.
For instance, gnubg. When the checker is moved there's about a 2 second gap between selecting the checker and the screen redraw showing where it's been moved to.
also things like using the drop down menus in firefox, about a second until the menu appears and then 2 seconds + until it shows the submenu contents.
I'm guessing it's probably some sort of settings issue, but for the life of me I haven't got a clue where to start looking.
I haven't changed anything that I'm aware of, and haven't installed anything that might be a problem (again, that I'm aware of).
My system is reasonably new (less than 6 months), with a Core 2 quad chip and accompanying nvidia graphics card (not sure how to get exact details) and it's using the 180.11 nvidia driver. I have ubuntu 8.10 installed but use KDE 4 for my desktop.
Any guidance/assistance etc is very much appreciated.
regards
John
