Is it possible to disable some components of icewm-session?

Hi,

Im using FreeBSD 6.2, IceWM 1.2.30.

My computer is not very fast, so Im quite careful in choosing what to start up. From the IceWM manual, i see that there are some components of IceWM that I dont need. For example, I already have ROX to handle my desktop (i want icons on desktop, and a file manager ), so i dont think i need icewmbg to handle the background. Actually, I only need icewm and ROX, that's all. But the problem is that I start IceWM from GDM, and can only get ROX to start with IceWM by adding a line into the ~/.icewm/startup file and let icewm-session load it. (That's the only way i've known so far.)

Whoever knows how to work around this please help me.

Thank you very much

Every mind is a different world, but i would do it differently

You don't need rox, icons, or gdm, they just make your box slower, and if you have a slow box, why use them?

xfe is faster than rox and weighs less, if you put your keybindings in .icewm/keys you don't need icons, and startx is less problematic and faster than any display manager.
Just fix your .xinitrc:

#!/bin/sh

numlockx &
icewm

save/exit from your editor, go back to startx and your problems will be solved. Looks mean nothing, what you want is speed. Otherwise, why install a wm?

Thank you very much for suggesting me a better solution

Anyway, my computer is not that slow . It's a 667MHz Celeron with 256MBs of RAM. I used to use startx but later i found out that a display manager was much cuter, lol .

In short, I just want a simple desktop environment. I often leave a note on my desktop to take down new words i see while surfing the internet (as English is my second language), or one to remind me of my skedule, etc.

KDE or GNOME is out of the question because they interfere too much with my computer's performance. I don't know why i don't like XFce and have a feeling that it is buggy (maybe it is just me who do things wrong). I used to use Fluxbox with Thunar as a file manager. But Thunar starting outside XFce shows the same grey icon for everything, and I was too lazy to find out how to change that, lol.

Then I found out that IceWM was just as light and responsive as Fluxbox, but a little more convenient, so i switched to IceWM. Then I thought if I had icons on my desktop, it would be perfect (greedy me, ). I came up with iDesk and ROX. I tried iDesk first b/c i thought it was lighter. But the compilation failed. I didnt mind finding the problem but jumped to plan B, i.e. ROX, . It's also a file manager anyway.

I guess it won't make any perceptible difference when i disable other IceWM components, but as a habit, i just want to disable anything i dont use
