That said, I do not understand why the configuration cannot be saved ANYWHERE. That is something I would only expect from a live image distribution, not an installed instance. One might load a USB device, mount it, make sure the user has wrote permissions, and use that to stage the configuration. If you try that, please let us know what happens.

I literally cannot save the file from nvidia-settings ANYWHERE!
I can make test files in /etc/X11 as sudo which is where I assume the X Configuration file should reside but I cannot save the nvidia-settings file there.
I posted in NVIDIA forums and their top contributor pointed me to nvidia-settings where I should make the required monitor Primary. However when I posted the error message I have not had any reply.

The Save to X Configuration File button allows you to save the current X server configuration settings to an X configuration file.
If only it were so!
