Hello all. OK, to all you who gave up on it, those who haven't tried it, and those wanting to know it's worthiness, I say, try again, look carefully, and definitly go for it!
I was a minor contributor to compiz, ccsm icons, elements svg images and raw animations for the cube 3d models, however, I went back to "windows" choke and gag when many distors dropped it, until I saw that several distributions came with compiz-reloaded either by default or installable. I settled on Fedora 30 Mate, F28 and F29 previously. Those who, mistakenly, see compiz as "eye candy" are mislead. The configurable short cut keys and commands alone make compiz more than worth it.
For those who have forgotten, and I admit this is about the "eye cany" with commands and short cut keys not visible, a video I made a few months ago on Fedora with compiz-reloaded; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1PjjBWgqKE
The channel coz_DS has quite a few cube 3d model videos I made if you want too see them <<<< definitely eye candy. However, DO NOT dismiss compiz because of eye candy. There are settings, as I mentioned, that make it all worth it.
Are you looking for feedback? I personally view compiz as eye candy, along with other such technologies, because they lend nothing to my end user experience. I can configure the WM I use to do exactly what I need without whatever features compiz may add.
Having said that, some people like having their DE or WM with these features, I do not, mainly because I am very utilitarian when it comes to my computer use.

I tried the rotating cube desktop interface for about one afternoon before I tired of it. Eventually I started using ten (count 'em) virtual desktops which makes the cube unusable for me nowadays.
I'm not sure if it's a Compiz feature or not but I do like the sliding desktop feature when I switch between them. And I do use some of the desktop window features like the "dimmed" inactive windows, translucent windows, etc.---at least I do on my desktop where I have a decent video controller. I stopped using those things on my laptop which doesn't have as high-powered a video subsystem.
I used to be real big into the eye candy aspect. But I started to realize it only slowed me down. I can change to another desktop 100x faster with the keyboard than by using the mouse to rotate around a cube. The computer I'm currently using is another issue. It can barely run current Gnome, much less anything more demanding.
To be completely honest if it wasn't for my wife and I sharing a computer, and me wanting to keep everything unified in the house right now... I'd probably be running the i3 window manager and be done with it. Eye candy is cool for a bit, then it just get's in the way.
the first 45s of this video were totally wasted on me.
then at some point (i just fast-forwarded through the vid) you keep showing some fancy 3d animations without any explanation. is this still compiz? or are you just showcasing your powerful GPU?
in any case, i'm unlikely to sway away from my $WM anytime soon.
however, somebody once said that "compiz was the thing that made apple & windows users go 'wow, that is so cool, can i have that? - oh, it's only for linux - maybe i'll try linux after all then'"

Sorry to hear you didn't understand the first 45 seconds of the video. It was there as a Linux user's joke. However, I was not showing off my gpu since it is an intel hd graphics 510. I'm sure there are far better gpus out there. Most of the eye candy stuff had labels, but the video was made for people who already knew about compiz effects. what is not apparent are the many many possible keyboard shortcuts and commands that can be implemented via compiz.
I have used both windows and apple. Without compiz, both of them together could not come close to linux. With compiz, linux is even further ahead. Don't get me wrong, there are many long time linux people whi would have more harsh things to say to me concerning compiz. I just ignore them!
