Ipod Mounting as Read Only in fedora

Hi,

Did anyone ever have any success in getting an ipod to work in linux ?

I have a 6G ipod nano touch and it gets recognized by gtkpod and rhythmbox...

but it always mounts as read only....

I tried to specify the disk UUID in fstab and to mount it as read write but it still mounts as read only...

I copied the firmware from the ipod using:

dd if=/dev/sdc1 of=ipod_firmware
dd if=/dev/sdc2 of=ipod_firmware2

And i converted the disk to vfat32 instead of hfs.

And copied the above firmware back..

it is still not working...

Any thoughts on this??

you must use GTKpod to write music to it
i have a nano also

that might be a problem ,big problem .
you might need to plug it into a MS win7 box and reactavate it using Apples software

the apple ipod software dose not run on linux

Thanks for the reply John,

Reformatting it to fat32 wasn't necessary and working, restoring the device under windows converted it to vfat32 anyway and mounting the device with the uuid will mount it as read write :

UUID=A88B-3652 /media/IPod auto rw,user,noauto 0 0

##UUID is listed under /dev/disk/by-uuid/

But gtkpod gives a checksum error while loading ipod, i guess ipod nano touch(red) isn't supported yet, i also tried banshee and rhythmbox players but they show as they are syncing the music and when i look in the music folders in the ipod i see the music files, but when i disconnect the ipod it doesn't have any songs in it.

I guess i have to wait a little bit for the device to be supported by the music players, let me know if you find any other solution.......

Thanks

Sam
