Installing Quod Libet proving difficuilt on Zenwalk..(n00b)

I'm trying to install Quod Libet but can't seem to get past ''./quodlibet.py'' because it is leading into an array of problems.

I do ./quodlibet.py only to get the following problem.

Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./quodlibet.py", line 298, in ?
    import pygst
ImportError: No module named pygst
I checked line 298 with bluefish and:

Code:
import pygst
    pygst.require('0.10')
So obviously I need that. I searched google for it but couldn't find it then I checked Quod Libet's README and checked the requirements:

PyGSt (>= 0.10): http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/ stated as a requirement and then I followed the link to get to 'gst-python' (I assume that's pygst because there's nothing else that's called pygst that I could find)

Tried compiling this with ./configure then I ran into another problem, this:

Quote:
checking for GST... configure: error: Package requirements (gstreamer-0.10 >= 0.10.2) were not met.
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively you may set the GST_CFLAGS and GST_LIBS environment variables
to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for
more details.
Now I go and I download THIS I manage to compile this successfully and then I try installing gst-python again only to get the same error as above and now I don't know anymore :'( all this only to get a music player of my preference working.

Distro: Zenwalk 2.8

The latest Zenwalk is 4.2 - yup, looks like you are ready for slackware

Have you tried Netpkg to hunt for what you need? You want everything gstreamer and everything python. Use official packages as much as possible.

Looking at the tarball, it looks like you are expected to run "make install" as root. Have you tried?

To be honest I rarely ever download a distribution bigger than 200MB because where I live internet is expensive and I have a 3GB bandwidth allowance p/m. Other than that, I got Zenwalk 2.8 several months ago with a LinuxFormat Magazine and thought 2 days ago that I should try it out.

I don't know how this netpkg thing actually works. I know synaptic and apt-get etc...I'm familiar with that but netpkg...

Yes, it does not work...I need those essential stuff hee..The actual thing I don't understand is that I did install gstreamer but it can't find it. The only thing I can think of is that it needs some libraries maybe or gstreamer-dev or something of that sort (I don't even know if such a package exists )

Thanks for the help.

netpkg is very similar to synaptic. (Though it can also be used like apt too. Typical zenwalk non-multiplicity of packages.)

... for that, make sure the gstreamer is in the path environment variable. You can do that directly (echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH) and you can check the configure script for the exact package it looks for and add the path to it to the scripts GST_CFLAGS= line. (Then you may need to edit the makefile as well.)

Note: this sort of thing used to be routine.

That is where netpkg will help you - chances are the extra python and gstreamer packages are already configured for zenwalk.

aside: zenwalk actually looks quite cool - it seems xenwalk is to slackware what ubuntu is to debian... sort of.

There is a great discussion about zenwalk:

Thanks very much for the help and sorry for the late reply but the internet was down for about two days. I'm currently on Windows because I played around with my xorg.conf and messed up the display but at least I know how to fix it I just need a decent terminal text editor like nano... So I'll download that from here and access it on Zenwalk and then compile it I hope When I get my GUI back I'll check into netpkg
