well... i think theres a package manager. theres a group of packages labeled kde or something
anyways...
i think you should back up all your files and try a newer distribution of linux.
i recommend pclinuxos
you can download it here click here for download page
if you have a slow internet connection, ill be willing to snail mail you one, because i have a pretty fast internet connection.
i reccomend you take my advice.
but one last thing: dont use the partitioning program that comes with pclinuxos, use gparted livecd
also, the current version of pclinuxos available to download is a test release, but it should still work fine.
As pointed above, get something up-to-date. If you already have RH9 installed, do you have any GUI ? I suppose you are on GNOME now, am I wrong? Anyway, there must be a installer, which shows the installed and the available on the CDs software. Look for it, the name of the program most probably contains "rpm". Well, you'll probably find several programs with names containing "rpm", read the man-pages for what they do If you are on GNOME, look in the application menu, for "Install ...", or "Software management", or something like. If you got the GUI installer, there must be a "Search" field somewhere. Write there "kde", and it'll show a long list of packages. BTW, the KDE itself is over 200 packages, many of them depending on each other. The installer must resolve the dependencies for you. Read the descriptions of the packets to choose which of them do you need. Also, look in the list if there is something called "KDE metapackage" - an rpm which contains no files, but which depends of the main KDE packages, so installing it will automatically install the KDE desktop. On my Mandriva, for example, it's called "task-kde-...", don't know about RH, but most probably, there is an analogue.
