It's true. I was playing with my mandriva distribution and got two trash folder when I re-installed and restored. I deleted the real trash bin, the desktop configuration file, and just have a regular file folder that calls itself trash. If I right click on a file and trash it, it goes somewhere ????? I have other accounts set up and the files go to trash:/.

How can I restore the real trash bin, the Desktop Config File? Where did those other files I tried to delete go and do I have to find them and delete them.

It depends on your desktop. As you did not post what desktop you use, I can only guess.

Usually, it is something like ~/.Trash directory.

It seems to be in the home directory for that account, whether I use Gnome or KDE. I squished it in Mandriva 2006 but have since upgraded to 2007. If I do a total reinstall, the icon goes missing again after I restore (yes, I backed up after I goofed. Live and learn.)

If your using Gnome, the "trash bin" is nothing more than a hidden file in /home/<user>. Thats where all of your files went. So when you "move to trash" all you do is put the files inside of that hidden folder.

Try going to Applications -> Configuration Editor

Once there goto Apps -> Nautilus -> Desktop

And then on the right it should have check boxes for the icons on your desktop including your trash bin. Does checking and/or unchecking solve anything?
