I think windiws killed my linux
 

I have been using mint linux for a while now as my main system. I play a few steam games and had some crypto stored in my windows OS so i havent let go of it completely. I recently got around to installing my wallets in linux and i booted into windows to transfer my coin to my linux wallets, since the last time i had used windows and those wallets in particular i had resized the main partition and my wallet said the blockchain data was broken and it had to redownload the whole thing. I didnt think much of it and it took a few hours then when it finally finished i sent my crypto and rebooted.

Heres where shit really hit the fan though, when i expected the grub boot menu to show up booting me into mint linux i got the grub help console. So after a few reboots and checking the boot options in bios i finally got my live usb out thinking i just had to install grub again but grub failed to install and as i took a closer look at my partitions i realized that my whole linux install was gone. So im not sure if the wallet overwrote my partitions or just destroyed the addressing or what happened but gparted shows 3 microsoft partitions with an unknown file system.

I installed gpart and am attempting a disk recovery right now while typing this up. Im not as worried about any of the software although it will be a major pain in the ass to reinstall im just wondering how likely it is that i will be able to recover any data and while i have my wallet seeds saved im worried about losing all of my crypto. So if anyone has dealt with something similar before or has any idea what i can expect or maybe some helpful advice on trying ro recover data i would appreciate it.

Have you tried using the "parted" tool from the command line? If so, what is the output of "print" from there?

Im currently running testdisk, my linux partition used to be the last 300gb or so of the above partition table.

Trying to recover data is taking a really long time and i don't have very high hopes it will succeed. If it doesnt im going to have to reinstall completely which will take a while to get everything back to the way I want it so I'm considering skipping the data recovery all together and trying to restore my wallets from the seeds.

after thinking about it for a while I'm pretty sure I resized the windows partition from inside linux since windows wasn't cooperating and my best guess would be that windows didn't like that so it tried to continue as if nothing changed and overwrote the pointer addresses / partition table and maybe my ext4 partition.

also as a note I have two drives a 128gb ssd where windows is installed and a 1tb hdd where I had extra windows data aswell as my entire linux system so now I'm thinking about booting into windows and formatting the entire hdd since I dont have to worry about losing my crypto.

Scraping data like testdisk always takes a while - maybe days. It has to read every sector looking for fingerprints. As such it only recovers a known (sub-)set of files - I assume you've checked the filetypes you're interested in are included. I found it best to only look for my subset of files. Won't make it run any faster, but the mass of recovered directories is more manageable.
And of course the filenames aren't recovered - that bit you have to fix yourself.

I've never tested LDM, but in the old days it used to be a pain with Linux. Should be better these days, but if Windows expanded the logical volume over your data as appears likely, I'm not sure of what formatting takes place.

Yeah I just gave up with recovery, formatted my HDD from inside windows, reinstalled mint and just finished customizing my system back to the way I like it. I reinstalled my wallets and imported the seeds and i have all my crypto back. The only thing I really lost were some single player game saves but thats not too important.
