I know computers, but
I’ve got this headspinner of a problem…. I wasn’t doing much to my PC (Single boot running LM21 Cinnamon) yesterday, but by mid afternoon it’d all gone to complete anarchy. I had restarted my PC (Trying to get Call of Duty running in WINE), I’d changed my monitor to Intel power saving mode to try to get the screen resolution corrected – the display was about 25%, top left of what it should have been, don’t think that has anything to do with the problem, BUT anyway… on restart. The dreaded “No such partition/entering rescue mode/grub rescue>” appears. I tried a few commands, LS, exit etc, but nothing went onto the screen, not power apparent on my keyboard. I tried lots of things on restart to avoid the grub issue, BIOS/Setup (Del) screen system settings (F9) Boot order (F12) but it came back every time. Eventally I powered down completely and it will go to a screen, but only once. I went to Bootorder F12 and selected USB Boot first and got into a live session, restarted without the USB and we’re back to grub rescue with no power. I can get a normalish start by powering down/start/F12 to bootorder (Where there are 2 elements showing Ubuntu), selecting either one seems to start OK and everything is normal, UNTIL I switch off and it’s back to Square One. I’ve run Bootrepair to no avail.
