Assuming from your post that you just installed a new version of CentOS and it is the only OS on the machine and fails to boot??
Use a Live CD and run command: fdisk -l as root user (that is a Lower Case Letter L, not a one), post results here. Also, go to menu.lst file and post it here: cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
