I cannot run dolphin with root user in Kali linux with KDE
Hi,
I use kali linux 2018 with KDE desktop environment. I cannot run dolphin with root user but when I login with another user account I can do that. Is it possible to run dolphin as root user totally? Thanks |
Have someone any idea??

Kali is **NOT** meant to be used as a daily distro, but for security/pentesting ONLY. Their own website even says this, and notes that it's designed for experienced Linux users only. If you were, you'd know why you can't do what you're after, and why it's a very bad idea. Also, read the LQ Rules and Question Guidelines...bumping your own thread with zero new information only served to remove it from the zero-reply list, making it **LESS VISIBLE** and less likely to be answered. And, it's plain rude...we volunteer our time here, so prodding people after little more than an hour isn't a good thing. |

Again, you are doing something that is NOT good, on an operating system that's not supposed to be used for what you're using it for. Ignore whatever you want, but again, Kali is for security testing only...not daily use. You got an answer that might work, but probably WILL NOT, since you're using Kali. The distro for experienced users, who should know better than to do what you're doing. You can run as root with 'kdesu' as well, which will run Dolphin (or ANY program) as root under your regular user. |
Also, this forum in staffed by volunteers who all give of their time to answer Linux questions.
When I've asked a question here, I've normally waited till the next day before checking for an answer. I notice that you waited less than 90 minutes from your first post to your second. Some would think that to be somewhat impatient, demanding even. As for your question, more and more desktop environments are making it difficult for root to run GUI applications. They say it's "security," but I think it's nothing more than "security theatre." Try running dolphin from the command line as root. You may find some helpful error messages thrown to the terminal. |
Eminent2021, bumping your question
that said, your OP didn't contain much useful information to start with. any answer given is probably the result of a search with your thread title. |

@Eminent2021, I was able to run Dolphin quite easily as root, so as said, if you knew what you were doing, then it should have been quite easy for you... Just so you know TB0ne isn't lying about Kali... Quote:
