I am too old or the handler to grab a corner to make a window resize is too tiny ?

I don't know if I am getting old or if in Ubuntu 10.10 they made the right spot to grab a corner and then resize the window too small but the fact is I am having difficulties to grab the corner of a window.

There is a way to adjust this ? I am using the "radiance" window theme.

Please, be gentle and do not ask how old I am. Assume it is a usability issue. And do not suggest to use high contrast theme or keyboard keys for mouse movement.

First check - use the zoom function to increase the size. If it is easier to gram the right spot, then it is the size.

I find that if I have the status bar active, the size of that active corner is much bigger. Other than that, the only way to resize it is to change the theme. Or adjust your mouse settings to be more sensitive to movement.

Of course, you could rt-click on the title bar and select "resize" ;)

Yes, with the windows border set to "ClearLooks" the size of active corner is much bigger. I guess choosing another theme I would get a similar change. The problem is that orange color on window bar that I don't like very much. I really think the ambience theme is cool !

I am interested in your findings about "status bar active". What exactly you are talking about ? May be I can keep the ambience theme with that....

I have the default Gnome desktop, with tho panels (on top and another in bottom).

Open a window - in the "view" menu, you have an option to select what to, well, view ... one of them is the status bar. There is a move away from having a status bar on the grounds that it is very MS, isn't needed for much, and less is more.

Note, you can change the color of the window decorations by customizing the theme you use.
In the appearance-preferences dialog, use the theme tab, select the theme you want, then click "customize".

I find that Alt + right mouse button near the corner of the window let's me resize the window at will. Similarly Alt + left mouse button allows me to drag a window around. Alt + middle mouse button changes the order of the windows. Great for when windows overlap (something I use all the time) or the widgets or title bar are off the screen. This is in KDE and aome other X window managers. I don't know if Gnome has this useful feature.

Update: I just tried a 7.04 Live CD and it appears not unless it is configurable. I know Gnome is (was?) pretty limited in its behaviour. The fact that windows jumped to the front just because they were clicked on was a deal breaker for me - this was also the final straw that pushed me to install Linux and why I'll never buy a Mac. Come on guys, let us choose how we want the UI to bahave!

How you focus the windows is configurable. iirc: in compiz.
But you are right: Gnome is prescriptive, has been for a long time.

The alt+mouse button does not work in Gnome. It almost ignore the Alt key, whatever is the left or right mouse button.

I realize the radiance theme has size of corners too small.
Than I change the border to Clearlook and as Simon suggested, I change the color of window border to match again with the default color of radiance theme.

But that bring back an intention I was delaying for a long time: give another chance to KDE.
I was a KDE user before they made that bad move (I mean, that premature change to new, unfinished and cluttered UI). I guess the things are more stable and polished. Just in case, I will create another user in this computer just to give it a try.
