Howto put page controls [-+x] in every corner or side of all windows in Mint 15 Mate
I find dragging Mr. Mouse pointer all the way across the desktop screen to close close, minimize, or enlarge the windows in use an unnecessary time and wrist waster not to mention brain irritant. I think I remember being able to change the order that the -,+, and x controls appeared and to which side of the window that they appeared on. Is there any way that these window controls can be made accessible from any corner and side of the window?

You can only have them at the top of the window (at the titlebar). I haven't tried this, but should work:

mateconftool-2 --set /apps/marco/general/button_layout --type string "minimize,maximize,close:minimize,maximize,close"
The colon (":") denotes the window title. So you'll get the controls on both sides of the window title in the example above.

Don't Alt-F5, Alt-F9, and Alt-F7 work in Mate?

It's always interesting to see how other people work. If I resize a window once in the day, that's probably the limit! What's the big attraction of resizing?

Thanx Goumba!!! very hepful<btw> have a friend I nicknamed gumba look up the meaning of that one aye!

Thanx also DavidMcCann, I've never been a fan of keyboard function combos as they are equally taxing on my brain to remember them but do hurt my wrists less tho. I have this dementia thang which makes things harder or ipossible at varying times and also weak painful wrists and other joints.
Ya know the most I miss about windoze was/is having control of most of these functions by just right clicking any where on the page to min max and close from a menu. Hint Linux pleeeeez pleeeez

Hint hint nothing :-) hold down the Alt key be right click anywhere inside the window.

Actually Alt and right click gives you the resize arrow.

Really? While not currently using Mate, I was sure in the past that it acted same as GNOME, which gave the control menu (minimize, maximize, etc) when holding down Alt with a Right click. My mistake then.

In gnome it's in "Advanced Settings>>Shell"
Not sure about Mate.

Alt-left gives you a fist to move things around with, Alt-right gives you a resize arrow. I can't remember what it was with MATE 1.4 and I never used versions prior to MATE 1.4 to say what they had.

Goumba, the code you gave at the beginning of the thread was for MATE 1.4 MATE 1.6 doesn't use mateconf anymore. In MATE 1.6 open dconf editor and change org > mate > marco > general > button layout
