what files ?
the very very very first thing is STOP using that computer
use a DIFFERENT ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!

there are a few recovery live cd's
i Like "systemrescue cd "
-- oops forgot the link --
http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page

USING a different computer burn the disk
on it there is a bunch of recovery tools

everything you do on tha box that you deleted files from can and WILL overwrite the space on the hdd where those files were .

once you do recover them ( you might ? you might not )
install extundelete-0.2.0.tar.bz2
http://sourceforge.net/projects/extundelete/
http://extundelete.sourceforge.net/

BUT any and all work you do on that box like installing this WILL overwrite where those files were and you will NEVER be able to get them back

Please indicate which distro you are using. On an RPM based distro, you can validate packages, which can help locate missing system files.

Another file recovery program is `photorec'. You may not get the filenames back.

Your best option is to restore files from backup.[COLOR="Silver"]
