How to move a running window to a different DISPLAY?

Is there any way I can transfer a running application window to a different DISPLAY in X11? For example, if I start an application from the local PC, can I log in remotely from somewhere else, "steal" the window temporarily, then return it to my PC's display when I've finished interacting with it? I'm basically looking for an X version of the "screen" program, which does something similar for console applications.

Matthew.

I think I found a solution, using x11vnc:

This is an inefficient use of bandwidth - sending an entire X11 display to the remote client via VNC, instead of a single window. But it does what I want.

If the application is simple enough (i.e. a single window) you may be able to use the -id option: http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/x11vnc_opts.html#opt-id and http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/faq.html#faq-windowid to export only that window.

If the application is complicated or has lots of popups it probably isn't worth it.
