How to get this work on Slackware?

Hello. I have older laptop with Slackware-current. It has 512 MB RAM, and plenty of disk space. I am using Xfce 4.8 by rworkman, and I am very satisfied. But I would like to make life easier on this thing, so the problem is raising and lowering volume. Because alps touchpad is really hard to scroll, I need to use buttons or even more keyboard. So I would like to get OSD to notify me and popup menu with slider to pull it up or down, as seen on Xubuntu. I really like Slackware and it works great on my laptop so I would stick with it, even if this cannot be resolved. So here is it in pictures:

First, notify OSD: http://niklas-rother.de/wp-content/u...10/02/3RCX.png

Laptop is Sony Vaio PCG-K35.

Thanks in advance.

I used to need to do something like this so my media would work.

You might want to check if your desktop is using dbus. If it is, include dbus as a term in your web searches.

This how to mentions a package which gives you multimedia key control and an osd. It is for XFCE and the thinkpad. I didn't read enough into the article to know if that package is generic or Thinkpad specific.
