how to execute browser app Flock.0.7.6.en.us.i686 on FC1 kernel 2.4.22-1.2199.nptl?

I have been trying for a couple days now (intermittently) to install a browser called Flock v.0.7.6.en.us.i686, a development of Mozilla.
(Hmm, would that be for x86 64 architectures? I hope not, i thought just for 4th gen. processors?)

I am running Fedora Core 1 "Publisher's Edition" (Came with an O'Reiley Linux book at the public library, (c) 2004).
My kernel is 2.4.22-1.2199.nptl.
AMD Athalon XP 3000+ machine with 512 MB RAM.

As may be evident from my use of internet, Mozilla itself is working ok. Flock, however...

I recently switched over to Linux from Windows. Flock was my favorite browser on XP cause it blocks flash and javascript, plus the neat stumble feature. So I thought it'd be amusing to install it on Fedora.

I succeeded at gunzipping flock and de-tarballing it. It now resides in a folder (directory) also of name Flock in my home shell (not root) directory. But I cannot seem to get it to run.

I tried to compile the folder with ./compile. No luck, but this was before I un-tarballed it. There is a file in the directory called browserconfig.properties but all it does is contain the GPL and list the browser homepage as the flock start page. It's a text file with mostly all note signs (###) (except the line that lists the start page).

I read in the manual that the computer needs a path with the executable file in it, so when it goes to start it will search the right branch of the tree. I read that .bin is one sort of executable file. In windows, it would have been searching for the .exe file, which would launch the program. Windows had .bin files too, but I never launched anything with them.
So.

Here I looked for the program file (which I hoped = the executable):

[me@isp flock]$ which flock*
/usr/bin/which: no flock in (/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/me/bin)
/usr/bin/which: no flock-bin in (/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/me/bin)

[me@isp flock]$ /home/me/flock:${PATH}
bash: /home/me/flock:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/me/bin: No such file or directory

Does this mean there IS NO executable in the folder I downloaded and unzipped, or what?

Any help would be appreciated. Don't hesitate to ask for further clarification.

Hi mzcd,

To install Flock on Linux, follow this guide: http://wiki.flock.com/index.php?titl...ck_on_Linux.3F

Since you already un-tar'ed Flock, you probably need to cd to the directory where you un-tar'ed Flock and run ./flock

If you have further problems, you can visit Flock's Support forums at http://flock.com/forums/support

Thanks for your interest in Flock.
