How to Emulate and old PS/2 wheel mouse ?

Hi,

I have an issue with Maple software, the interface I would like
to use is the so called "classic interface" which is
a bit old and does not recognize my mouse wheel.
(I'm on a Debian stable guest in VMWare Fusion, Macbook Pro, Apple Mouse)

The "classic interface" works well with an old PS2 mouse.

Do you know if there is a way to emulate the PS2 mouse wheel
with my mouse or a modern USB mouse in general ?

yes and no, depending on your distro.
add Option "ZAxisMapping 4 5" to xorg.conf under the mouse section, your wheel should now work for anything in X depending on your distro. Also make sure you have Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" in there as well
