How to eliminate double windows lists on taskbar?

I use Fedora 14 with a Win7 theme. I depend on the windows-list widget that displays the open windows in the taskbar for easy selection. Trouble is - sometimes for days on end I get double lists. So if I have 1 window open I have two list buttons; if I have 2 windows open, 4 buttons, etc.

I've searched all through the desktop config and prefs areas and cannot find a place to correct this. Can someone please advise where I need to go to remedy this? And please don't say "to the funny farm".

Thanks :-(
