how to downgrade x

I just installed a matrox parhelia 256PCI on my opensuse10.2 system. Downloaded the drivers from matrox and tried installing. The installer aborted installation because I have the wrong version of x. Apparently it works with version 7.1.0, but not 7.2, which is what I have.
How can I downgrade x to version 7.1, so I can use the matrox drivers?
Any other options/ideas?

You could go to the Xorg site find the source files and compile 7.1, though I think this would not a trivial task as there are mutiple modules. http://wiki.x.org/wiki/ModularDevelopersGuide

I would consider taking the card back if possible because if there's issues with 7.2 then as time goes on things will not get better unless Matrox improves it's Linux support.

I noticed that Matrox closed their support forum but accepts email queries, have you contacted them yet?

Thanks for the reply. I can't send the card back, as it's not mine. It belongs to my employer.
I did have an ASUS video card installed, but the fan was starting to go bad and I didn't want to fry it when I was in the middle of a project. The only video card left, that was more than 32 mb was the parhelia, so in it goes. They won't buy me a new card either, since the linux box I was working on was 'undocumented' (I work for a municipality). Since I had to get a box going right away, and without obvious problems, I bit the bullet and put xp on it.
Sorry. :(
Hopefully in the future I can go back to suse. I've still got it installed at home though.

you probably would be fine with 32mb of video ram if you didn't run beryl of compiz. can't say for certain but I've got 64mb and running beryl fine.

I might be able to swap the video cards with my development machine. It's got an ATI FireGL. I'll have to double check if ATI has drivers, which I'm sure they do. Can't do that any time soon though. Too much going on. Maybe in a couple weeks.
