how to differentiate virtual desktops?

i'd like to put different icons on the different virtual desktops in kde, i mean something like the games in the gaming desktop, the work folders in the work desktop and so.
i tried doing it, but icons get on all desktops altogether, and in the home folder there's only one 'Desktop' folder, so i wonder if this thing is even possible
i'm on kde 3.5, on fedora 7
thanks

I'm almost certain this isn't possible in KDE. I don't think any of the other desktops or window managers can handle it either, though I'm less certain about that.

create different users?

Create usr work, usr games and whatever else you want. Define ea. user's desktop. I were trying to do what you are saying, this is what I would try. Can't hurt anything.

creating users for everything is overkill
so what's the advantage of having 4 desktops if they're all the same? to have different wallpapers? only to separate the programs windows amongst the desktops? no good, i'll post this request on kde forums

It took me a little while to get used to this, but I actually find it very useful for putting different windows in different places. I suppose it depends on how often you have lots of things running, but for me anyways it helps reduce some clutter.

That being said I agree that it would be nice to be able to put different icons on the desktops. But if the current capabilites of the virtual desktops aren't being used all you need to do is set it to have 1 desktop.
