How to create Local Repository in Ubuntu 14.04

Just to start to playing with Ubuntu Repository i wanted to try to use my UBUNTU DVD as Local Repo. Googling what i did was

1) Mount the ISO for example in /mnt/localRepo
2) in the source.list i put the the following string: deb file:/mnt/localRepo trusty main restricted

but it does not work, could you tell me what i miss?

Apart Mirroring the Repo, there is a way create an updated Repository from an Updated System?

Tanks a Lot

Joe

Sorry i made a mistype error on the path. Seems to work because i don't receive any error but i suppose there are few packages installable in the DVD. There is a command that was able to retrieve a list of all the installables packages from a repository?

There is a way to build a repository from a Updated system? Or i need to mirror the Ubuntu reopisory from web?

you can try to install apt-cache-ng for serving out the repo you get from a mirror site.

general steps for install apt-cache-ng:

1. install apt-cache-ng
2. modify the config
3. add the proxy

The pro for apt-cache-ng:
* small foot print, no need to install ngix server
* works for all linux distro
* no modification of the source list

The con for apt-cache-ng:
* complex config and easier to break
* require a lot TLC

what is the directory/folder path after /mnt/localrepo ?

for the apt-get to work, the top path must be like this /mnt/localrepo/dists. if you have any other directories/folders above the ../dists, you must explicit to list in the source list.

example: if your repo files is store on the media like this /mnt/localrepo/myfile/download/ubuntu/dists/..... you then must state the path in the source list as

deb file:/mnt/localrepo/myfile/download/ubuntu xenial main uiverse

hope this help

There should be something in /etc/apt/sources.list that begins with '# deb cdrom'. Uncomment that line. But it's an exercise in futility, because the DVD only contains a tiny bit of software compared to the repo, and you can't update it, so it will be too old in a few days.

If you want to a local repo, you need to use the 'ftpsync' scripts off the Debian site: https://www.debian.org/mirror/ftpmirror

It requires about 400GB to mirror one architecture. Or, you can make a partial mirror out of packages you download for installation and upgrade, so you don't need to download them again for other systems on the network : https://www.togaware.com/linux/survi...tribution.html
