How do I open appleworks files (.cwk) in open office?

I can't seem to get my appleworks files to open in open office. They have the extension .cwk if I really need to I can log back onto my ibook and change them to .pdf but I would really like to learn how to open them in openoffice.

I am certainly an Apple expert, but I believe that to open an Appleworks files, you will need to run the software from an Apple computer. From my knowledge, Apple software still makes pretty "closed" types of files. Meaning that if you don't have the software to open it, you files is pretty useless.

You can maybe try, from appleworks, to export the file contents into a plain text file or into a .pdf, .ps file. Then it could be easier to work with it from another software.
