Highest resolution not showing up on second monitor

I have an nvidia gt240 using the latest stable drivers and have setup a dual headed display

the primary monitor shows all the correct resolutions, but the second display only allows up to 1280x1024 whereas the same system in windows allows much higher resolutions

How can i fix this?

edit: nevermind...

Rather than posting "nevermind" you should post your solution - that way anyone else searching the forum for same problem will know what you did to fix it.

unfortunately, i didn't do anything

i used nvidia-settings to detect the display, and the highest available resolution was 1280x1024

the next time i started X, there were resolutions up to 1920x1440 available

You can mark posts as solved by using the "Thread Tools" option at the top of the thread...

Sometimes posting what happened helps others. While you think you didn't do anything you did in fact do something you re"started X" and "used nvidia-settings to detect the display" again.

Sometimes it helps to know what didn't work as well.
