Help installing linux Ubuntu on my old eMac

I have a live cd of the latest version of Ubuntu and I want to install it on my old eMac computer, it runs Mac OSX version 10.4. I am having trouble booting from the live cd. I have tried open firmware but I don't know where to go from there. So how do I boot from the live cd and begin the installation process with or without open firmware?

Hi Kamodo, a good first step is to compare your hardware specs against the Ubuntu system requirements:

Quote:

Ubuntu Desktop Edition

* 1 GHz x86 processor
* 1 Gb of system memory (RAM)
* 15 GB of hard-drive space (although this can be split onto 2 drives, a 5Gb / and a 10Gb /home fairly easily)
* Graphics card and monitor capable of 1024 by 768
* Either a Cd/Dvd-drive or a Usb socket (or both)
* Internet access is helpful
If your computer does not meet all of these requirements, Ubuntu may fail to boot. In your case, the likely issue is that you have a PowerPC processor, not Intel x86.

A quick Google search yielded this informative site on PowerPC Linux: http://penguinppc.org/
