Hebrew vowels/punctuation on wrong keyboard keys (Ubuntu Mate16.04)

There has always been support for Hebrew punctuation (nikud, vowels) in the Hebrew keyboard layout in Ubuntu. They were located on the top (numbers) row of the keyboard (as in Windows) and were accessible in combination with the 3rd-level key.

Since I switched from the previous LTS version of Ubuntu to Ubuntu (Mate, I don't think it makes any difference) 16.04 the punctuation signs are not in the right place. Most of them are now accessible using different letter keys (S,Q,J,X etc.) when combined with the 3rd-level key.

Any idea what happened and whether I can somehow get these signs in the right place?

(this question was first asked here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2338558 but was never answered)

Your keyboard configuration tool should offer you a choice of Hebrew layouts. The one you want is the default (Israeli Standard) but the one you've got is for Lyx.

Thank you. No, I am using the Israeli standard keyboard layout, and have tried all the other Hebrew variants too.

Well the only conclusion would seem to be that Ubuntu have produced a bad keyboard driver. Mine is at /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/il and it has
Israeli standard SI-1452 [what you want]
Hebrew (lyx)
Hebrew (Biblical, Tiro)

I've attacjed a copy: it had to have the extension or the board refuses it!

Thank you! With your replacement file the symbols seem to be back where they should be. And thank to you I also learned what files hold this information. Thanks!
