Headless Lubuntu - VNC with ful access

Hey,

I'm pretty new to Linux distro's and I've installed Lubuntu 16.10 and want to use it as a Plex Media server.

I've been reading through various other posts and made progress but now I'm stuck.

I've got X11vnc setup and when the monitor is connected and turned off I can ssh and run this command that I found worked for someone else.

x11vnc -xauth /var/lib/gdb/:0.Xauth -display :0

This works just great but when I detach the monitor it doesn't work.

I found this http://askubuntu.com/questions/76775...s-16-04/769674

and went and installed the Ubuntu-desktop as in the solution but then the file /lib/systemd/system/x11vnc.service isn't there and I can't find it from a search.

There is a file called X11-common.service and this file is a character device ?? I can't find out how to edit it if that is the file on my system?

Can anyone please help me get this sorted?

Thank you

i cannot answer your question directly, but...

1) i wouldn't install Xorg (or any gui) on a server.
2) i wouldn't use ubuntu for a server. i use debian stable.

No not for setting up plex.

Things have moved on for now. I don't know why it didn't work before but I'm now getting the desktop on my TV (42") through the HDMI. Some fonts are messed up and I read this is because the resolution is to low but that's something for another post.
