Is this the right forum to get help installing Linux 17.3 on my desk top?
My computer is a Intel 2 duo cpu E7500 2.93 GHz,
4 gbs ram running windows 7 on one drive,
have data drive, and have a 1 TB drive for the linux
mint program/associated files. My problem is properly formatting the 1 TB drive have tried 4 times no luck.
the linux mint works great from the disk in the cd/ dvd drive. Anyone Help??? thanks for your interest...:O)
If you not planning on having Windows and Linux on the same drive .....
You can use 'g-parted live' to create the partitions for your Linux Mint distro. http://gparted.org/download.php
<OR> you can use the partition manager that comes with Linux Mint during your installation to make the partitions. Just make sure that you have the right drive selected before you write to disk.

Until you post specifically what you tried and how you did it and what the results were, we'll just be guessing. You need a Linux filesystem on the drive if you want to install a Linux system. The Mint disk should have the GParted Partition Manager on it so you could use that. If you want to use it, their Manual is online at the link below.
Tell us what you did, tell us what didn't work. Take a photo of what happened/messages and post that - at least then we will have something to work with.
I am sure that I didnt get the formatting part on the new hard disk in the right order. in the past I have had phone help and this worked well for other problems is this an option? $ Also windows says the linux drive is formatted ntsf?
I live in Southern California.

The only way we can help is if we know what you tried or can see what is the current status of the drive and partitions.
-::-Use your Linux Mint CD boot it up and launch the gparted program. Take a picture of the partitions on both drives and post it for us.-::-
I am going to look for help here locally I just don't have enough knowledge to complete this install rather pay someone to finish thanks all....
I just installed Linux Mint 17.3 on a friends laptop and it was reasonably easy.
When it came to the partitioning part that's were it get's a little challenging if you haven't partitioned before.
