grub rescue prompt !! Help -:)

I can no longer boot MX-16.1 on my dual boot system.

grub rescue error: file `/boot/grub/x86_64-efi/normal.mod` not found

Tried to repair grub using MX Tools (USB MX-16). No joy.

I mounted / (/dev/sda4) manually from a terminal window.
/boot/grub/x86_64-efi/normal.mod does indeed exist.

What can I "try" from the grub rescue prompt to get MX-16.1 to boot?
( I would prefer not to reinstall MX from scratch if possible, MX-17 will be out in a few months).

By the way this boot problem occurred immediately after installing Ext2Fsd on the windows system / partition.

Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions offered ...

Tom

grub rescue prompt !! Help -:)

looks like you mixed uefi and legacy boot mods. check BIOS settings. Sorry, my bad!!! Misunderstood that to a new install.
Possibly you need to check file system using e2fsck.

Boot into some live CD/USB and mount partition containing grub configs and check partition labels/id's. I'm not sure what's causing the problem but it could be due to a reordering of partition labels. So, check uuid's and id's in general with respect to what is present in the grub.cfg.

Sovled (Partially)

Thank you colorpurple21859 for the grub rescue how to link.

I am now able to at least boot my Linux system by entering the following:

set prefix=(hd0,4)/boot/grub
set root=(hd0,4)
insmod normal
normal

which brings me to expected grub boot menu.

I will start a new thread to help me determine why I can not
correctly configure grub.

Thanks to all who posted replies.
