[SOLVED] Gnome3 and application shortcuts

I am running gnome3 over arch linux distribution.
The problem is that I cannot create an application shortcut, since there is no such option when I right click on the desktop.
Is there any other way to do it?

Find %{some}.desktop file in /usr, copy to ~/.local/share/applications/%{newname}.desktop then modify the contents to suit your needs?

There is no file in the /usr folder.Only some directories.

This command found (I believe) some existing applications in the folder /usr/share/applications
What I want to do is to create a shortcut for a new application I have extracted in a directory , using terminal window.

Pick one of the .desktop files you found, list the path and name of the application you want to use along with its arguments (if any) and remember questions end with a question mark.

I used this guide (http://linuxcritic.wordpress.com/201...-desktop-file/) and I have created a desktop file with file execution path and icon inside, but I still don't see the application icon at my desktop.

Run gnome-tweak-tool > File Manager > Have file manager handle desktop, restart GNOME3.

Problem solved eventually.
I just followed these instructions :

The key here is to use gnome-desktop-item-edit --create-new ~/Desktop

You can even change the application icon later by right clicking the icon --> Properties --> Click on the Icon
