Gnome wont startup properly

Hi all. I installed Debian on my server without the Desktop because at the time i didnt need it. Now that i do i went to this site to learn how to do it by simply doing apt-get install gnome

From the looks of it it worked, but it really didnt. I see the login for the desktop when im able to login as a user. But the desktop doesnt really load. I can move the mouse but thats about it. Its incomplete and i dont know what else to do. Does anyone have a solution for this? I dont want to do a complete reinstall because i have too many files/configurations on the server that i need, and dont want to backup because it would hamper the network seeing how i use the machine as a Samba server and proxy/filter. Thanx in advance!
