No, they both should follow the desktop standards (as in using .Trash for trash etc.), they both do what a desktop should, they both have their own perspective for things. It's a question of personal taste - and a little of the toolkit used (GTK vs QT), but since you can install both libs and be able to run apps created using both of those, it's not a big deal. Some even have both of them, and switch them whenever they want - perfectly acceptible, just takes some extra space (and arranging menus a bit more, if you want it the clean way).
Many people still get a war up on the question which one is "better", just like between distributions.
