GNOME: Nautilus -> how can I stop it popping up new windows for each child folder?

can't find this in the archives, so ... I find that this is messy, especially when the entire path to the location viewed is conveniently located in the bottom left corner of the frame. I'd just like it to navigate by moving into the folder I double click on. Thanks |
You can use browser windows. These will not pop up subfolders when they're double clicked.
Here's how:

for reference:
from my Mac using daze I tried holding down different keys when double clicking. It seems that shift + double click opens a child and closes the parent. Much tidier that way :-) Since the full path is available in the lower left (dropup menu) navigation backup the chain is facilitated (as is knowing where your window is located in the file system. Thanks for all who offered suggestions (they were learning points for me too) |
