GNOME- Multiple desktops gone, how to recover

I made that mistake of letting someone else sit in front of my CentOS while logged as a root. After checking out the multiple desktops feature, that person was prompted that some applets needed to be reloaded and unfortunately chose not to. Now, I don't have multiple desktops in the corner (or anywhere for that matter) anymore and whatever application I put down on the taskbar cannot be seen anymore.
How to get Gnome to reload those applets that need to be reloaded in order to use the desktops and make taskbar work normal again?

Have you tried restarting the X server or logging out and back in again? Same thing happened to me in FC5. If that doesn't work, right-click on the panel and choose "Add to Panel..."; I'm sure the applets are in there.
