GNOME 3.4.2 Customization Issues

Hi LQ!

Recently I've been building my own Arch-based OS but with a DE and graphical env. etc. To set it apart from the world of pure GNOME (i.e. Fedora) I've made several customizations to the shell, like changing around menus, adding extensions, and including AWN for a dock. I have a few questions about my next steps.
  1. How do I add a choice to the settings dialog? Specifically, I would like to add a launcher for AWN settings to the System Settings window, along with several other launchers.
  2. How do I change the 'start-here' icon (the little GNOME foot that appears on some menus)?
  3. Are there any legal issues with making AWN or Shell extensions part of your own system? I can ask this in a separate thread if needed, but I thought I'd just put it out there.
  4. Can I make the AWN settings, Favorite programs list, and background default to a different item for all users? In other words, I want all users to have AWN at login with a particular selection of applets and launchers, and have the same programs in their favorites list.
  5. Is there a way to remove the favorites dock in the Activities Center (the dock of programs in the window overview/hot corner)?
  6. Last but not least (in fact, maybe the most important question), how can I make the effects of either a downloaded extension or of a manual customization system-wide? For example, I would like to make the "Axe Menu" extension replace the Activities button for all users from the minute their account is created. This extension would be automatically and always be activated for everyone, and would become a system default rather than an extension which can be modified through the "" website. I was thinking that maybe I could somehow make the extension's folder automatically be added to the account of everybody in the group 'user' (or something along those lines? just an idea)?

Thanks in advance for any help. This is the last big hurdle I have before I can get ready to relesase an alpha of my OS, so I'm really excited and would appreciate any help I can get. Feel free to message me if you have any questions, interests or other comments about my project.

Thank you!

Enabling custom extension

Oh yeah, and how do you enable a custom extension that you made? I made an extension but I don't know how to enable it!
