gdm3, display only shows one possible desktop

I don't know what to call it so will try to describe what I'm looking for. On older versions of debian there are 4 "window selectors". This is so we can change from one window desktop to another.

The version of Debian I just installed has a different desktop (gdm3). It's more like ubuntu which I really don't care for.

In a nutshell, I'm trying to get the widnow selectors I described earlier

Any help is appreciated.
