Please tell us more: which background--the overall background (wallpaper), the background in the terminal, the background in the text editor, etc.? Also, which version Ubuntu and what desktop environment/window manager?

sorry, guys, but i blew it. my question was a bit murky AND I've [kind-of been forced to change from ubuntu to fedora]. what happened was that my KVM cable was loose. i just bought a new Dell widescreen display. i did not set it up because i have use of only my left hand. i must have bumped into this cable often enough to loosen it from the display... So, all of a sudden insteead of seeing white i see yellow. --Long-story-short, my daughter re-seated the cable into the back of the d isplay and my colors are back.

Line-And-Learn...

I think this puts you in the running for one of the oddest hardware problems to date.

It never hurts to reseat a cable, but, really who woulda thunk?
