FreeNX, how can I take advantage?

Hi!

I've read from a magazine about FreeNX. Is it true that it uses X compression which enables graphical KDE, GNOME or any WM to be exported to client faster even on dial up speed? I am kinda wondering how to set it up. How is it setup? If I install it let's say on a Fedora Core 6 machine? Will I be able to connect to a new GNOME Session? Or its like Vino wherein you can control whatever it is displayed on the server screen?

I also heard that even Windows Client can connect to it as long as it has a NX client installed. How true is this? Thanks.

well most of this would be covered by looking at the freenx website. freenx is a free implemention of nx itself, at nomachine.org. deep inside it's really VNC, but the way it handles session control i think is really very neat. it runs a dedicated user called freenx, which you ssh into remotely. when you do get it, that user automatically spawns a daemon which is then connected to. as such there's no persistent service in use other than ssh. nifty.
