free fglrx and firefox stupidity

Hello!

I fundamentally don't use proprietary software including ati proprietary fglrx video driver. Instead of it I use free fglrx kernel driver. All good, but after 10-20 minutes firefox becomes too slowly. With vesa driver all are ok, except screen resolution (i need with 1440x900).

Please tell me, is it curable?

Thanks in advance.

It's not clear to me how the video driver would cause FF to slow down. If there is a video issue, I would think everything would be affected.

How about the plain vanilla "ati" or "radeon" opensource drivers?

Off-topic: I personally do not get upset about using proprietary components as part of my overall Linux setups. My objective is to have a working system which does not contain any MS products. Proprietary SW is not intrinsically a bad thing--it is simply a business model. Opensource is an exciting and dynamic new paradigm, but we can't always assume that it will meet everyone's needs.

Yes, everything working slowly when firefox and fglrx work together.

Free software isn't opensource. It's really offtopic and I will NEVER use proprietary software.

You mean that when FF is running, everything slows down? And this only happens with fglrx?

Ambiguous.... Free SW is used to mean opensource AND to mean free of cost---or both. "Opensource" is usually free of cost--but not always

Your choice. Do you use ANY proprietary products?

Yes. With mesa implementation of fglrx:

OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.2)
OpenGL extensions:

Now i'm writing with konqueror and graphics is working fine.

No within 4 or 5 years. I do not fight against proprietary software. I simply don't use it at all. It's my choice.

I meant proprietary products in general--not just SW. For example, do you have the design drawings for your TV, radio, VCR, car, motorcycle, washing machine, etc.?

(I'm at a loss on the FF issue---never seen anything like this. The only thing I can think of is to browse the settings available by entering "about:config" into the URL window.)

Have you tried removing ipv6 support in FF? This also might cause slowing down you describe.

But, which driver are you using ? What does it say in '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' ? Post the 'Section "Device"'

Many thanx, guys. I've resolved the problem by commenting Load "dri" in xorg.conf. But I still don't know how dri module is caused firefox stupidity.
