Question Framebuffer with nvidia driver (Slackware64 14.1 multilib)

Goodday everyone!
I need to install xbmc and steam on my brand new Slack, but I want to keep my tty resolution at vga=791 like it is with nouveau drivers.

As far as I know, one solution could be using grub instead of lilo, because with Arch on the same laptop it worked w/o issues, but I'm not sure if this could work in slack...

My graphic card is an Nvidia 9600GS-M.

So, is there a way to have both framebuffer and nvidia driver or I need to forget about runlevel 3 and get stuck in runlevel 4?

Thank you!

Don't know where the framebuffer stands now.

I was hunting for ATI cards on it and the last one it had died on me 10 years ago. YMMV.
That said, you can have console and a fancy driver. The drivers (propietary & OSS) usually have a kernel module (which handles console) and an X driver. You are welcome to try framebuffer - it may work, or it may give us a laugh.

Well, I guessed I figured it out....

In my first try I didn't use COMPAT32:-yes in the SlackBuild of nvidia-driver and I've also replaced the compiled libvdpau with the package from alienbob.

This time I both compiled nvidia-driver with COMPAT32:-yes and kept the SBo libvdpau, rebooted and everything worked as I wanted: correct resolution on tty and full 3D acceleration under X!

I don't know which one of the two changes did the job (I guess COMPAT32) but since now it's not broken I won't try to fix it...

Sorry for wasting your time
