Files not appearing in Trash
 

Just a minor annoyance, but when my users use the graphical trash can on the Desktop, the files disappear immediately and the trash can appears empty. But if the user opens a terminal and looks in:

~/.Trash

The files they just deleted are still there. So the action of moving the file into the graphical trash can works normally but displaying the contents once trashed does not.

Also, if the user uses nautilus and navigates to:

Computer -> Home -> .Trash

The trashed files appear there as expected, but the Trash can on the Desktop remains empty at all times.

This appeared out of nowhere after the last big RHEL5 point release (about 200+ updates) but for the life of me I cannot determine the cause.

We're running a fully updated RHEL5 64 bit system.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

This might be the right answer, or it could be the wrong answer.
On my system The trash is in ~/.local/share/Trash

So it might be in the wrong place.

Thanks for the input but that is not the problem. I've confirmed that /home/USER/.Trash is where the files go when put into the trash. As I said initially, files dropped into trash appear in /home/USER/.Trash but graphically on the desktop, the trash can appears empty when in reality, there are files there.

So my users do not realize they have stuff in the trash until their quota is reached and they receive warning messages from the server.

Still not sure why this is happening but at this point, I don't care much. I'm in the process of bringing all my rhel5 systems to rhel6. I'll leave this thread open in case anyone has ideas that may help others.
