Fedora 17 switch to KDE, system fails boot

I'm fairly green to linux so I am learning it through video training to get my sys admin cert. I recently fubared my fedora 17 virtualbox by issuing the following:

yum -y install @KDE

That completed successfully

Then I created:
/etc/sysconfig/desktop

and added
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANGER="kdm"

I did this only to really learn how to switch a desktop manager from gnome to KDE. But now my system just hangs. I don't know how to get to a command prompt either and how to recover or change my settings.

Hitting delete while the system is hung shows the following as failed:

FAILED - Failed to start Display Manager

Failed - Failed to start Wait for Plymouth Boot Screen to Quit
'see systemctl status ' for details

Edit,

I used fedora recovery to get my desktop back to gnome by deleting the lines in /etc/sysconfig/desktop but still no options to boot into kde. Strange.

Edit again:

Apparently it got installed and the login screen is the same. I have to click "sessions" and it shows the options to login with gnome and "KDE plasma Desktop". I'll mark this as solved now.
