On my system (openSUSE) the file is /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager.
That may be a standard file. If not, grep for your desktop manager (eg. kdm, gdm) and see which file it is.

grep '[kg]dm' /etc/sysconfig/*

If you are looking to change which login manager you use;
sudo dpkg-reconfigure packagename
That will prompt you to choose from the installed managers, or if you install a new one it should prompt you. By default Ubuntu only has GDM installed, so if you install KDM, it should ask if you want to make it your default.
